Dogs FAQ

Can I bring my dog?

The Map House is an excellent family vacation spot and dogs are a part of the family. Over the many years we were renting, it was disheartening to see how many homes disappeared when you checked the “pets” box on listing sites. We do have certain rules about dogs, which is why the FAQ, but we are generally disposed to saying yes. We do need to have a phone conversation first.

Is there a fee for dogs.

There is a $250/week fee for your dog. This allows us to pay for a deeper cleaning than necessary without dogs.

Are any breeds excluded?

Our insurance prevents us from welcoming certain breeds. These are: Rottweiler, Doberman Pinscher, Akita, Bullmastiff, Wolf Hybrids, Chow Chow and pit bull, including but not limited to, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull terrier and American Pit Bull terrier. We know, your pit is lovely and never so much as growled at a passerby. Still can’t do it.

Additionally, we have had bad experiences with Huskies and Husky mixes. We are likely to say no to highly shedding breeds because even with the additional cleaning they sometimes just leave too much behind.

Are there any pre-stay requirements?

Ticks are endemic to the Cape and dogs pick them up like kids pick up seashells. Within two weeks before you arrive, your dog needs to have a tick & flea treatment with Frontline or a similarly effective potion. Collars are not an acceptable substitute.

What can we expect to find at the house for dogs?

We have two small/medium size dog crates, should you wish to crate your dog. We have two sets of food & water bowls and some straggler single bowls.

Does that mean I can bring two dogs?

We have occasionally said yes to two dogs, but we are more comfortable if you bring one. We will charge a second dog fee for a second dog if you manage to convince us.

Do you allow cats?

No.

I have other questions.

Great. Send us an email and let’s talk about your pup. We want everyone to be comfortable with your stay.
